This is my experience over the last few days trying to come up with a new blog design.
In my experience with creativity and coming up with ideas in general, there is certainly no wrong or right way to go about generating ideas especially when nothing is coming to mind right away. There are certainly old and tired methods that we learned from a while back and we still do when we are desperate. For instance, brainstorming… let’s face it, that technique doesn’t come up with as much ideas as we would like. I still tried it after looking through other blog designs.
Most of the time I find that the simplest solution is probably the best. In this case, I just remembered back to a book I read a while back. Most of the details from back then are fuzzy, but the basic ideas was to overcome resistance and put everything into perspective. While I was on the highway, I just relaxed and centered myself onto my goals. I wasn’t driving by the way, I recommend focusing on driving for those who are. Nothing came really right away besides thinking about what to focus on in this blog.
While focusing on one of my thoughts I came up with this idea of what I would do differently if I was to redesign the dreamworks redux theme. Then a ton of ideas came in about changing this or that, upgrading this, adding this feature, changing color schemes, adding more customized graphics, and before you know it I had a vision of my future blog design. I am going to draw up the sketches later and post them. The gist of it so far is that it will be a light version of dreamworks redux, but way more than just a simple color change as it will receive the ultimate makeover. I will even go over whats wrong with the current theme and how I plan to improve it.
For those who are interested, the book is called “The War of Art: Break through the Blocks and Win Your Inner Creative Battles” by Steven Pressfield. Its designed to be a short and quick read, which it is so don’t be afraid to take a look at it. You could probably read it in the bookstore without buying it. I bought it though and its on my bookshelf. I should read it over again to refresh my mind.
