In order to redesign my blog, over the past few days I have been soaking up inspiration from other blogs, reading books on blogging, and closing my eyes while on the train and imagining the different possibilities the blog could look like. I find the last one to be a very interesting and helpful tool to not only design websites, but to survive the daily commute as well. This is all done in an effort to create a better blog since there is no point of just throwing on a new coat of paint without improving it or reaching new goals.
To that effort my main goals are to increase readership by developing more original high quality content and designing a blog that facilitates the process that readers go through in order to find that content on this blog. In order to accomplish these goals, I have been taking useful advice that I have found by reading books on blogging. Most notably I found the following two books very helpful in this endeavor:
“clear blogging” by Bob Walsh
“blogging heroes” by Michael A. Banks
They contain very useful advice on different areas of blogging, but the most useful for designing a blog is about the usability of it. Most importantly the link provided by Bob Walsh to Jakob Nielsen’s article Weblog Usablity: The Top Ten Design Mistakes expanded my thinking greatly. I have read Nielsen’s book “Prioritizing Web Usability” before, which was great, but the information on that site is very specific to blogs. Covering the same subject with a few different points is Jeff Atwood’s article Thirteen Blog Cliches. I recommend reading Jakob Nielsen’s book and Steve Krug’s book “Don’t make me think: A common sense approach to Web Usability” in order to get a more complete understanding of usability subjects that concern blogs. I think in the future I will write a short review on these books so people get an idea of what is inside and if it is worth purchasing. It is definitely worth reading though and probably available in your local library.

Introduction
For the next fifty years this alone shall be our keynote-this,
Our great Mother India… When we have worshiped this,
We shall be able to worship all other gods.
-Swami Vivekananda
“ Arise,Awake,Rest not till the goal is reached!” Swami Vivekananda energized the nation with this clarion call.He was the messenger of India’s national renaissance. It was a revolutionary message that stressed character building, social and economic justice, universal brotherhood and pride in our cultural and spiritual heritage.
The cultural heritage of Aranmula had its strong moorings in the Pampa. Degradation of the river system had been posing a serious threat to the environment as well as the socio-cultural ethos of its basin
The river had almost degenerated into a canal of wastewater at certain points, especially in summer. In olden days, devotees used to enter the Parthasarathy Temple at Aranmula only after washing their feet in the Pampa. But, now the polluted waters had forced many of them to forego that custom
Aranmula Cultural Heritage Research Foundation(ACHRF) is to take the initiative in the protection of the Pampa and the cultural heritage of Aranmula and to co-operate with Government and other organizations concerned on cultural heritage of Aranmula ,research and education and promote cultural heritage of Aranmula .
Aranmula is among the three villages in the country, which has been identified for launching the Endogenous Tourism Project (ETP)— a joint venture of the Union Government and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
The endogenous or transformative tourism encompassed both domestic and international tourism aimed at broadening the visitor’s experience platform, where the visitor attraction lies within the host community and local environment. It attempted to transform the attitudes and mindsets, imparting local pride and visitor appreciation of the cultural heritage diversity,
Aranmula Cultural Heritage Research Foundation(ACHRF)
is located in the beautiful village of Aranmula. Aranmula is a tiny village clustered around the Parthasarathy temple, by the river Pamba.
Aranmula was declared as a heritage village of India by the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH)
During Onam (which falls in Aug/Sep), Aranmula is the venue for the renowned “Aranmula Uthruttathy Vallom Kaly”, or a water carnival of snake boats, the only snake boat race in Kerala with a ritual back ground.
Aranmula is world famous for its metal mirrors, “Aranmula Kannady”, unique for its alloy and its ancient method of ‘lost wax’ and polishing techniques of making a metal surface into a mirror. The proportion of the alloy is a secret known only to the manufacturers, ie only to the members of a family who had been passing on this secret from generation to generation since the 15th century.
The Aranmula Parthasarathy temple is one of the most prominent temples in Kerala and is about 5 centuries old. Non hindus are not permitted inside the sanctum sanctorium of the temple. The area around the temple has a special ambience in the mornings and evenings.
The holy river Pamba flows through Aranmula and is very close to the Aranmula Cultural Heritage Research Foundation(ACHRF).
Students often go to the river side in the mornings and evenings finding it so beautiful and interesting : Rivers in Kerala have been, since centuries, a means of transport, a place where men and women wash themselves, as well as their cows, elephants, bicycles and lorries
