The hardest design part to integrate into a blog is the comments because it is almost always an afterthought. Most of the time we are not even looking at the comments, or have the comments field filled while the design process kicks in.

Brilliant stuff, I really like the Dark Motion comments.

I think Typesites has some excellent and unique comment formatting as well, though it’s a little off in Safari.

Great idea to collect and compile an amazing list of comment section designs. Good work!

I started a redesign of my blog last week, still just using templates by others but getting to the point where I feel more comfortable tweaking them.

Found your site on the weekend and instantly downloaded the template just to add in the comment formatting to replace what was in the new template I am setting up.

I wish you got some nested comment examples, though.

I would agree that these are all really well done, but I don’t think that any of them are really very special.

I’d say that Nimbupani, Jonathan Snooks’s comments are at least creative. But seriously these comments look tired to me.

There were a couple of good ones up there in the comments. Now I don’t mean to brag, but seriously, look at my comments section–that’s more like it

I like the layouts, however in todays day and age making your comments attractive should not be something new. Its an important part of your site.

The one thing I did notice is that none of them address the issue of getting MORE comments. The whole point to having a comments section is for user interaction, user feedback and topic discussion. The primary purpose of ANY comments area should be to GET comments, then to display them nicely in a readable format.

I like what you have done here with your comments section but its frustrating to have to scroll all the way to the bottom of 72 commemnts to post your own. You also have a lot of space between comments due to the design elements, again too much scrolling.

This is very interesting - I’ve read Adam Audette’s blog for a while and didn’t pay much attention to the comments. But in fact, it jumped right out of the images above meaning that it’s obviously quite a strong brand image.

I guess if you have a website that has paid a lot of attention to something as small as their comments then the rest of the website is likely to be pretty tidy too!

Great collection of comment designs, a lot of blog designers tend to overlook this and it is a total shame.

I really like the AudetteMedia comment design (and of course this site design ;-)). I think it’s really difficult to think up an idea without getting inspiration from somewhere with web design. Most of these comment designs are really neatly done.

Some of the disigns have I seen on Tumblr … nice listing.

Graet article - comment design is kinda like 404 pages - people don’t really tend to spend much time designing them, focusing on the main layout, page nav etc instead.

I have mixed feelings on the comment designs with the numbers. On the one hand, it is interesting to scroll and see the exact number of comments your blog post has generated (the higher the number, the more engagement?). On the other hand,if there are not a lot of comments, a low number can be a turn-off as well? I am on the fence on this one. Thanks for a great list though.

I’d like to add that, in general, the comment sections with the darker backgrounds with the white text are just generally harder to read. So, in instances where the designer thinks he or she is doing something “creative”, it affects usability that much more.

Comments are very imp becuz they inspire us - specially when we get positive feeback.

After our shift to the United States, the carnival of Eid took on a entire fresh sense. From being an occasion distinguished with just family unit, it became a group of people-extensive carnival. The Eid breakfast with the family became an Eid brunch with 100 ancestors from the area mosque, and the new Eid dresses like traditional short kurta’s were conceitedly dilapidated to the convention center for Salatul Eid (Eid prayers) and displayed among 10,000 fellow Muslim Americans. Our family grew and the pleasure of shopping for new dresses multiplied five crease, with five glossy faces and five couples of enthusiastic eyes dazzling when they saw their new Eid outfits tunic on Eid morning.
